The classic Tamil action drama Run is all set to return to theatres on July 10, giving audiences another opportunity to experience one of the most memorable films of the early 2000s on the big screen. Directed by N. Lingusamy and starring R. Madhavan, the film remains a favorite among Tamil cinema fans for its blend of romance, action, comedy, and family emotions.
Ahead of the re-release, director Lingusamy shared an interesting story about the film’s origin. He revealed that the script was initially written with Vijay in mind. The story reached AVM Productions through filmmaker S. A. Chandrasekhar, but the project was eventually not taken forward. According to Lingusamy, Vijay was never informed about the decision, and the film later found its way to Madhavan.
The decision proved to be a turning point for everyone involved. Run became Madhavan’s first major action film and established him in a completely new image. The film went on to become one of the biggest commercial successes of 2002, enjoying a successful theatrical run and earning appreciation from audiences across Tamil Nadu.

Lingusamy also recalled that Vijay personally congratulated him after watching the film’s success. The director described the moment as one of the most memorable experiences of his career. He also shared that the title Run was suggested by producer A. M. Rathnam, who believed it perfectly reflected the film’s fast-paced nature and energetic storytelling.

Even after more than two decades, Run continues to enjoy a loyal fan base. The director revealed that many people still request another film with the same style and emotional impact, showing how strongly the movie has remained in the memories of audiences.

The upcoming theatrical re-release gives longtime fans the chance to relive the film on the big screen while introducing a new generation of viewers to this popular Tamil classic. With its engaging screenplay, memorable performances, and emotional storytelling, Run continues to hold a special place in Tamil cinema history, making its return to theatres a celebration of a film that has stood the test of time.
