Sitaare Zameen Par – 2025 Gets CBFC Nod with Modi Quote

Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par is gearing up for its big release on June 20, 2025, after securing a U/A 13+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on June 17, 2025. The approval came with five mandatory changes, including a notable directive to add a quote from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the opening disclaimer, highlighting his vision for a “Viksit Bharat 2047(Developed India by 2047). This addition has stirred curiosity and debate among fans and critics alike.

Sitaare Zameen Par Brings a Heartfelt Sports Drama to the Screen

A heartfelt continuation of Taare Zameen Par (2007), Sitaare Zameen Par is a Hindi remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions. Aamir Khan stars as a basketball coach guiding a team of athletes with intellectual disabilities, delivering a story of hope and determination. Clocking in at 2 hours, 38 minutes, and 43 seconds, the film promises to tug at heartstrings while showcasing Aamir’s knack for meaningful cinema.

The CBFC’s changes, however, have grabbed headlines. Besides the PM’s quote, the board asked the filmmakers to replace “Business Woman” with the neutral “Business Person” to embrace gender inclusivity. A “Michael Jackson” reference was changed to “Lovebirds” to avoid cultural confusion. The word “Kamal(lotus), which could hint at political symbolism, was removed from a visual.

Produced by Aamir Khan Films LLP, the film faced a slight hiccup when the team initially pushed back against some cuts, delaying certification. They eventually agreed to all changes to ensure a smooth release. The inclusion of Modi’s quote has sparked varied reactions, with some X users calling it an overreach of political influence in films, while others view it as a harmless nod to national goals.
