The Karate Kid is back with a brand-new movie called Karate Kid: Legends, set to release on May 30, 2025. This latest film brings together the old and the new, blending characters from both the original movies and the 2010 reboot. Fans of the franchise are excited to see familiar faces returning, along with a fresh story and new characters.
The film follows Li Fong, a young kung fu student who moves from Beijing to New York with his mother after a personal tragedy. Life in a new city is tough, and Li soon finds himself facing bullying and challenges at school. While he has strong kung fu skills, he realizes he needs more than that to fit in and defend himself.
To help him grow stronger and more focused, his teacher Mr. Han (played by Jackie Chan) decides to call in another expert — Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio), the original Karate Kid. Together, they train Li, blending karate and kung fu to help him face an important competition and learn valuable life lessons along the way.
Cast
The movie features a strong cast that mixes new stars with returning favorites:
- Ben Wang plays the lead role of Li Fong. He’s best known for his performance in American Born Chinese and is expected to bring a lot of heart to the character.
- Jackie Chan returns as Mr. Han, the wise kung fu teacher from the 2010 remake of The Karate Kid.
- Ralph Macchio also returns, once again stepping into the shoes of Daniel LaRusso. Fans of the original movies and the Cobra Kai series will be happy to see him back.
- Other cast members include Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, and Aramis Knight, who all play supporting roles that help push the story forward.
The film is directed by Jonathan Entwistle and written by Rob Lieber, with music by Dominic Lewis.
Karate Kid: Legends is special because it connects different parts of the Karate Kid universe. For the first time, characters from the original series and the 2010 version share the screen. It also fits in with the story told in the Cobra Kai series, making the film a key piece in the overall timeline.
According to the filmmakers, there will be some backstory revealing how Mr. Miyagi and Mr. Han’s pasts are connected, giving longtime fans more to think about and enjoy.
For fans in India, Karate Kid: Legends will be released in multiple languages — including English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu — making it easier for a wide audience to enjoy the film.
